The Classic Interior Design – 10 Things to love about The Eugenia

The Eugenia Hotel & Spa, constructed in a style that takes you into the old world, is certainly one of the more unique boutique hotels in Bangkok. Previously owned by Mr Eugene, a Taiwanese Interior Designer who moved to Bangkok in 1998, it is no wonder that The Eugenia was designed in such a beautifully classic way considering his love for art and culture and his dream to have all the fine travellers feel like they are at a home away from home.

The inspiration for The Eugenia’s design stems from an old Vietnamese lady of 83 years who he met and adored on one of his trips to Ho Chi Min. It has been said that she was a charming lady, always clad in her national costume, drinks Vietnamese coffee, eats French Baguette and reads the French Figaros. The concept of traditional timeless vintage class was therefore born along with the name she called him – “Eugene-Ni” (with love).

As Mr Eugene has evidently done his share of travelling, he has collected a lot of old colonial antique furniture from Asia, European antiques from his trips to Europe and also his father’s collection of Chinese furniture. All serving as the decoration that makes The Eugenia Hotel & Spa as atmospheric as it is today.

Alongside being decorated with relics from around the globe in the lobby and public areas, the entire architecture and interior of the hotel stays true to this theme which momentarily transports the hotel guest into another era when staying at The Eugenia’s luxurious rooms. In this 12-suite hotel, there are 4 room types; the Sawadee Suite, the Wattana Suite, the Siam Suite and finally, the Eugenia Suite which happens to be the biggest.

The Eugenia Suite has an entrance foyer and a sitting area with an antique dining table for 2 where you can choose to order room service and dine in the comforts of your suite. Here, we offer all the standard amenities of a suite that are expected by the modern traveller. In the bedroom we have a classic four poster bed with white curtains that mirrors both old western and oriental design. From the shape of the doorway to the lamps, every inch of this room is intentionally old-fashioned and retro.

We even see a consistency of theme in the bathrooms with a traditional freestanding copper bathtub that you would seldom find anywhere nowadays.

Although every room is under the same theme, the furniture however is not redundant. We can see here in the Siam Suite that the four-poster bed is of a different design and colour while still being of the same period as The Eugenia Suite.

We also have rooms featuring twin beds such as this one from the Wattana Suite.

All our rooms might be elegantly aged in design but the guest here won’t have to worry about being out of touch with the rest of the world as we also offer the essential modern facilities such as an in-room WiFi connection, self controlled air-conditioning, a wall-mounted LCD TV, a personal electronic safe to keep all valuables and a mini fridge with a mini bar. Not to mention the fact that we also offer a 24-hour butler service to ensure that all your needs are met.
